I enjoyed the article. I love acoustic music,-- blues, folk, jazz, classical and if I'm listening on youtube I often leave a comment but only to praise their performance or to ask a question. I only listen to music I like. I see no reason in giving negative criticism on something so personal as musical taste,

I love this so much. One of the reasons I avoid social media a lot of the time is the unnecessary negativity and hate that's spread there. I find that a lot of people hide behind the term they're "being honest". But being honest without kindness is just cruelty.

You're last two lines are also everything. I can't imagine living by only seeing the bad or wanting to spread hate. With every piece of media I always try to enjoy and love it for what it is. And if I don't, I assume that it just wasn't made for someone like me -- and that's okay 🤎

been thinking about this a lot recently! especially “I enjoy the internet for the reason that we can find like-minded lovers.”it can get exhausting to just scroll through opinions only intended to be provocative / shared for the sake of relevancy. there’s an art to good critique!

Really love this piece, so much of haterism is about aligning things with your identity and it just means that making other people feel shit about their taste seems valid. I wrote about a similar thing in music criticism a couple of weeks ago :)) https://open.substack.com/pub/angelicdissent/p/everyones-a-critic-so-why-arent-they?r=2rnczf&utm_medium=ios

Yessss this makes me so happy to read! Have you read the book Humankind by Rutger Bregman? I really think we could all have a much nicer time alive if we came from an abundance mindset from time to time. We don’t have to be at each other’s throats all the time

the twilight take is so perfect, that's exactly how i feel about it. I love it and I love to critique and there's a ton to critique but you don't dive into the illustrated guide because you don't like it.

I love this so much! I wrote a recent piece about the role of the hater in current marketing and wanted to desperately to talk about Twilight but just couldn't fit it in. I'm so glad you did – it's such an interesting case, especially when it comes to critiquing from a place of love, as you say. In general, I wish people were more open about what they care about :')
